Doug Jones - Ceramic ArtistWelcome to the Amelia Island Pottery website!Hello, I am Doug Jones, Ceramic Artist. For over 40 years I have been handcrafting coastal themed stoneware pottery and sculpture depicting sea turtles, fish, manatees etc. My work can be found in galleries in Amelia Island, Fort Lauderdale (Los Olas Boulevard), Cedar Key, St. Augustine, Havana, Savannah, Saint Simons Island, Jekyll Island, Hilton Head Island, Maui Hawaii and now in Melbourne, FL and Mt. Pleasant, SC. Check Out the two NEW GALLERIES carrying my work.....(see the Gallery Locations) In our island pottery studio, we employ a variety of methods to achieve the finished piece - ie: pottery wheel, slab construction and sculpture. I changed the name of our studio from Jones Pottery to Amelia Island Pottery in order to better reflect our environment and the style of my work. After working with me for a few years after my wife's passing, my son Chris, a talented potter in his own right, continues to carry on the family tradition with the Jones Pottery name. He also is involved in a new venture teaching wheel throwing at Amelia Pottery Works, a teaching studio here on the island. As an island potter, I transform clay into things of beauty that are found on and around the coastal area we call home . . . . .mugs, bowls, vases and sculpture magically come out of the fire as a fish, sea turtles, manatees and other forms of island art for your use and enjoyment. I don't make a huge selection of pottery, but I strive to do what I do best and do it well. I spend more time on an individual piece than other potters because I want you to have the best quality available. It is very flattering to see my work being imitated by other potters, as this just affirms my belief that I must be making something worthwhile.... Living in Fernandina Beach, the highlight of my morning is sitting on the back porch with my wife Pat, enjoying the serenity of Amelia Island, listening to the surf in the distance while sipping fresh ground Blue Mountain coffee from a mug that was made over 30 years ago by my friend and mentor, master potter Lee Shank. I want you to be able to experience that same feeling of satisfaction with one of my handcrafted ceramic items. Many of my pieces are destined to become heirlooms and with minimal care they will give lasting pleasure and enjoyment for generations. Please browse this site where you can learn about my process, mark the dates that I will be doing a show near you, find locations to see and purchase my pottery or even purchase from the photos in my on-line photo gallery. My goal is for you to enjoy my work as much as I do in making it. . . . Thanks Doug Jones Copyright © 1996-2009 by Amelia Island Pottery, All rights reserved.
